Carta a Pep

Qatar’s football card

Nooone really knows for sure how far and in what way the current upheavals among Arab nations  are going, but I suspect the fate of Qatar is beginning to put some nerves in the football world on edge. Qatar was not only recently picked by FIFA as the host nation for the 2022 World Cup, it has also  in recent months signed  a lucrative sponsorship deal with FC Barcelona after pouring money into a far less successful SpanishPrimera Liga club Malaga and reportedly showing an interest in Manchester United. The Murdoch stable can thus not be best pleased with the growing controversy over the alleged hacking of …

At the Camp Nou

It’s always a joy being back at the Camp Nou to see a live match and Saturday’s Barca vs Valencia was the kind of event that makes it worthwhile. There were close to 90,000 in the stadium which is quite a turn-out for this early stage in the season but then it was an important match. Barca has been floundering a little of late while los ches  , as the Valencia players are called,  have had an unbeaten  run of games, displaying a mixture of attacking football, creative midfield, …

Yes We Khan

Yes we Khan So Labour lost Battersea. Outgoing Labour MP Martin Linton planned to blame the Liberal Democrats but then thought it better not to. Had more Liberal Democrats cast a tactical ‘progressive vote’, then Labour just might have squeezed in, again. As it turned out the Lib Dem candidate   Layla Moran- hugely underperformed in south London despite claims that this  candidate had been identified by camp Clegg as one of his rising stars. Linton was magnanimous in defeat, extending a hand of welcome to the Tory Jane Ellison while at …
